 MEMBERSHIP IN FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

From the DISCIPLINE of The United Methodist Church:

The United Methodist Church, a fellowship of believers, is as a church which is an inherent part of the church universal, composed of all who accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and which in the Apostles’ Creed we declare to be the Holy catholic church.  Therefore, all persons shall be eligible to attend its worship services, participate in its programs, receive the sacraments, and be admitted as baptized or professing members in any local church in the connection.

 HOW TO BECOME A MEMBER OF FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

If you have been attending worship or participating in the life and ministry of First UMC, we invite you to consider becoming a member of the church. All who confess that “Jesus Christ is Lord” are invited to be members of this congregation.

Interested persons are invited to:

to express a desire to become a member of the church.

Members will be received on Sunday mornings at 8:30 or 10:55 a.m. as announced.

 REQUIREMENTS FOR MEMBERSHIP

All persons who have been baptized, or are willing to be baptized, may join First United Methodist Church by:

• professing faith in Jesus Christ as Lord
• transferring membership from another United Methodist Church
• transferring membership from another Christian Church
• restoration of faith

Five questions are asked each new member in the presence of the congregation:

Do you renew your solemn promise and vow that you made or that was made in your name at your baptism?

Do you confess Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior and pledge your allegiance to his kingdom?

Do you receive and profess the Christian faith as contained in the Old and New Testaments?

Will you lead a Christian life, the Lord being your helper?

Will you be loyal to The United Methodist Church and uphold it by your prayers, your presence, your gifts, and your service?
